"The union of the churches is not achieved through compromise of the truth. Union is possible only in the Truth — the Faith once and for all delivered to the saints."
Saint Nektarios of Pentapolis
Wonderworker · Metropolitan of Pentapolis · Theologian Against Ecumenism
Saint Nektarios of Aegina (1846–1920) reposed on 9 November 1920 — four years before the Greek hierarchy imposed the Revised Julian Calendar in 1924. He is therefore a saint of the undivided, pre-innovation Orthodox Church, untouched by any association with the innovations that followed. He belongs to us — because he belongs to the Church that existed before the break.
His theological writings are an explicit repudiation of the ecumenist movement. In his treatise On the Unity of the Church, he wrote: 'The union of the churches is not achieved through compromise of the truth, nor through the silencing of doctrinal differences. Union is possible only in the Truth — the Faith once and for all delivered to the saints.' He wrote this years before the ecumenical movement institutionalized precisely the compromise he condemned.
Critically: the spiritual children whom St. Nektarios personally formed — the nuns of the Holy Trinity Monastery on Aegina, whom he guided as their father confessor and abbot — remained on the Old Calendar after 1924. His closest disciples, those who knew him best, chose the Genuine Orthodox path. Their witness is the most intimate testimony to where their elder's heart truly stood.

What the Saints Teach
Canonized witnesses — from the 15th century to our own era — who speak directly to the questions our Faith faces today.
Let no one have dominion over our faith — neither emperor, nor hierarch, nor false council, nor anyone else, but only God, who delivered it to us through the Fathers.
A confessor of the Faith and a theologian of profound patristic depth — glorified by the Russian Orthodox Church in 2016 — who defended the Julian Calendar and the Tradition of the Holy Fathers against every innovation of his age.
St. Seraphim of Sofia
†1950
Archbishop, ROCOR · Defender of the Patristic Faith
Read: The Church & ROCOR BondA steadfast defender of the patristic Faith and the sacred canons, who taught that the Church must not conform her life to the spirit of the age.
Ecumenism is the common name for the pseudo-Christianity of the pseudo-churches of Western Europe. In it lies the heart of European humanism, with papism as its head.
A revered teacher who warned that the ecumenical movement leads away from the Church of Christ, and who defended the faithful who refused it.
Metropolitan of Moscow and a great theologian of the Russian Church, who taught that the Church must not alter her doctrine to suit the spirit of the times.
She shielded her priest with her own body, receiving the blow meant for him. She was 27 years old, a mother of two — and her blood sealed the witness of the Old Calendar Church.
